Product Information
Geocoding is a process by which geographic information is appended to each record of a location database. Some of these appended items include:

  • Latitude/Longitude coordinates
  • Census Block Group
  • Census Tract
  • County

Attaching these properties to your location data brings the Power of Geography to your decision making processes.

  • Adding latitude/longitude coordinates allows for your locations to be plotted on a map. You can now see the distribution of locations geographically for the first time. The use of different symbols and colors allow for stratification of your location data.
  • Adding Block Group, Census Tract, or County allows you to associate historical data that you may collect internally (quantities of product, cost of product, etc), and any demographic data. Geocoding is also the first step in an important sales/marketing took called Customer Profiling. With the addition of demographic information, you can determine the characteristics of your existing consumer base and marking saturation and even identify new markets.

GBBIS offers three levels of geocoding, including Zip Centroid, Best Method, and 100% Address-based.

  • Zip Centroid, which is the most simple and inexpensive form, allocates the locations in the area to the ZIP Code's geographic center.
  • Best Method involves a series of geocoding steps that start with the precision of the 100% Address-based geocoding and gradually lessen in accuracy to ZIP Centroid depending on the quality of the addresses.
  • Address-based geocoding is the most advanced method. This process uses actual street addresses and guarantees the most exact distance calculations.
